Major landforms of North America

Alaska Range

South - Central America, from Alaska Peninsula to the border of Yucan. The highest point in North America. The most important landform is the Mount McKinley.





Appalachian Mountains

About 1,500 miles in lenght extendend from central Alabama (U.S) through the New England states and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Quebec. They are mostly low and gentle. The most important landform is the Mt. Mitchelk




Brooks Range

Mountains of northern Alaska. Higher slopes are smownand ice-clad for much of the year. The most important landform is Mt. Isto



Canadian Shield

 Eastern and northern Canada and the Great Lakes area of North America. Rough and rocky surfaces, large coniferous forests. The most important landform is Mont d' Iberville.



Cascades

Northeast of California across Oregon and Washington. Mountain range stretanings, massive snow capped volcanoes. The most important landform is Mount Saint Hellens.



Coast Range

Along the Pacific Ocean of California, Oregon and Washington. Tidewater glaciers and low but rugged and scrub-covered hills. The most important landform is San Francisco Bay.



Coastal Plain

Southern and southeastern U.S to the continental shelf. Flat land with assorted mixed forests. The most important landform is the Mississipi River.




Great Plains

From the rockies  and extrend to the edge of the Canadian Shield. Smooth with large treeless areas and sloping shalow river valleys. The most important landform is Mount Rushmore.




Rocky Mountains
From the Mexican Frontier to westhern U.S, Canada and eastern Alaska. The rockies indude over one hundred individual mountain ranges. The most important landform is  Mt. Elbert.


 
Sierra Nevada

Eastern California. The elevation gradually increases on the west slope. The most important landform is Mt. Whitney.



Sierra Madres

Guerrero and Oaxaca. Include two major ranges. Divided in Sierra Madre Oriental , Sierra Madre Occidental and Sierra Madre Sur.
